One of North Carolina’s most prominent events, The Azalea Festival, returns to Wilmington on Wednesday, April 6th. The annual extravaganza features five days of galas, pageants, family fun and celebrity entertainment. A tradition since 1948, The Azalea Festival is named for the seasonal blooming of the Azalea flower.
In true coastal-Carolina fashion, beauty and opulence are central themes of the event. The festivities kick off with the traditional crowning of the Queen Azalea at The Queen’s Coronation. Other events, such as the Cape Fear Garden Club Azalea Garden Tour and the Airlie Luncheon Garden Party, will take place in two of Wilmington’s most magnificent gardens. The Cape Fear Garden Club Azalea Garden Tour has been featured in Southern Living magazine and remains one of the most popular and longest-running garden tours in the South.
In addition to beauty, entertainment is another main focus of the festival. The Celebrity Reception, After Garden Get Down and Patrons’ Party Gala are only a few of the parties on the schedule. As for attendance, over a million people view the fairs, concerts and special events in person and via media coverage each year. The Street Fair alone tops 200,000 people and over 100,000 attend the Azalea Festival Parade.
Springleaf* will be an event sponsor and street fair participant for the first time this year. Brian Stallings, Branch Manager of the Springleaf office in Wilmington, will be joined by Monkey Junction Branch Manager, Brett Bunting, to help run the booth. Stallings has been with Springleaf for 11 years and Bunting has over 9 years with the company. When asked about the festival, Stallings was very excited to be participating again this year. “We have a lot planned, including a giveaway for a GoPro camera,” he said. “Our local teams are thrilled to be a part of Wilmington's premier annual event.”
From Southern belles and lush gardens to parades and concerts, the North Carolina Azalea Festival has something for everyone. To learn more, please visit the Azalea Festival website.
