July 10-18: Three Rivers Festival in Fort Wayne, IN

By Katie O'Shea, July 08, 2015

From July 10-18, people from Ohio to Chicago and Michigan to Kentucky will gather in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to celebrate the city's annual Three Rivers Festival, a 9-day summer celebration.

The festival, which has taken place since 1969, has now become Indiana's second largest summer festival. Each year, nearly half a million people attend the festival, which features a huge variety of events, from art displays to sporting events, almost all of which are free or at a minimal fee.

According to David Redmaster, the Springleaf* branch manager at the nearby Kendallville branch, the Three Rivers Festival makes the whole town come to life. The festival "really brings the community out."

Springleaf is excited to participate in and be a sponsor of this year's festivities. On Saturday, July 18th, Springleaf team members from 7 nearby branches, including Redmaster's, will staff 3 booths around the festival, chatting with visitors and handing out Springleaf goodies. The booths will also be equipped with phone-charging hubs, so stop by to power up!

Some other exciting events taking place that day include a beer tasting, the International Village, a Children's Fest, and kayak and canoe races. The day will close with music and fireworks.

Redmaster has attended the festival many times over the 20 years he has lived in Ft. Wayne. As a high schooler, he marched in the festival's parade, which takes place on the first Saturday of the festival each year. Now he enjoys strolling through the antiques show and crafter's market, checking out the beautiful items on display.

To Redmaster, the festival is a great opportunity to experience "different aspects of life." Visitors can listen to live music, try new foods, participate in athletic events, enjoy amusement rides, view art displays, help decorate the city's Main St. with chalk, take helicopter rides, and much more.

"It's the start of summer," he says.
