Lilly Diabetes 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway 09102018

Race Reports

Elliott Sadler and the OneMain Financial team were a force to be reckoned with on Monday morning at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, until an unavoidable incident ended the team’s day early. The team was scored in the 35th position at the end of the rain-postponed event at the historic 2.5-mile oval. With the finish, Sadler sits fifth in the NASCAR Xfinity Series point standings with one race remaining in the regular season.

After inclement weather washed out both practice sessions and qualifying over the scheduled race weekend, Sadler began the 250-mile event in fourth place – per the rule book, his position in the owners standings. The OneMain Financial driver was quick to begin claiming track position and was up to second place by the conclusion of lap 2. As the team began to prepare for their first pit stop under the competition caution on lap 10, the veteran driver relayed his Chevrolet was a tick free off of Turn 3, but overall liked the handling.

When the competition caution was displayed, Sadler brought his OneMain Financial Chevrolet down pit road for fresh tires and fuel. The driver of the No. 1 Camaro restarted from the sixth position and completed one pass before the yellow flag was once again displayed. Crew chief Kevin Meendering made the call for Sadler to remain on track and hold his position. Just after Sadler took the restart in the fifth position, the No. 3 of Ty Dillion spun in front of him. With nowhere to go, the OneMain Financial Chevrolet received major damage, ending the team’s day.

JR Motorsports brought home a 1-2 finish with drivers Justin Allgaier and Tyler Reddick. Following the duo was Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott and Daniel Hemric to round out the top five.

Elliott Sadler, driver No. 1 OneMain Financial team:

“It’s unfortunate – we got caught in the middle with nowhere to go. I hate it for my guys who worked so hard and unloaded a fast OneMain Financial Chevrolet. We were in contention for the regular season championship and this finish is going to keep us from it. We’re going to rebound and race our race in Las Vegas.”
