June 30-July 3: Ribfest in Naperville, IL

By Matt Diehl • June 28, 2017

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Ribfest in Naperville, IL will once again satisfy local appetites over the July 4th weekend. Offering a lineup of premier rib vendors and BBQ experts from around the country, this annual festival has become a favorite in the Chicagoland area. The event runs from Friday, June 30 to Monday, July 3.

In addition to the famous food, Ribfest features two stages of music and a variety of family-friendly activities. Well-known musicians such as Toby Keith and The Wallflowers will be headlining acts on the main stage with some local bands playing on a smaller stage. As for family fun, Ribfest offers carnival rides, inflatables, magic shows and a petting zoo.

While the main attractions center around fun, the history of Ribfest is rooted in charity. The host of Ribfest, The Exchange Club of Naperville, is dedicated to the elimination of child abuse and domestic violence.1 Over the last 30 years, the Exchange Club has raised over $15.5 million for local charities through its service activities at Ribfest.2 The four-day event is also volunteer-driven, with more than 4,000 people donating their time each year.

Sharing the same passion for supporting local charities, OneMain will be a major sponsor of Ribfest for the fourth consecutive year. Tom Gillespie, branch manager of the Naperville branch and employee of 38 years, will be in charge of the company booth and lead the team of volunteers:

“My responsibilities include setting up our booth and maintaining the volunteer schedule, but it’s truly a team effort. We’re going to have employees from branches in Aurora, Plainfield and all over Chicagoland helping out. In fact, my son, who works at the Rensselaer, NY branch, is flying out to volunteer one day. The booth will be open all four days and we plan to hand out cinch bags, 3D fireworks glasses, bottle coolers and more. We’re also adding a photo booth, which will be free to the public.”

When asked what he looks forward to the most, Gillespie spoke about interacting with the crowd:

“Aside from the music and food, [I look forward to] getting a chance to visit with thousands of people from all over. More than 250,000 visitors come to Ribfest each year, so it’s a great opportunity to promote our brand. On top of that, it’s fun to interact with OneMain team members from around the area.”
