October 7-8: Elk Grove Giant Pumpkin Festival in Elk Grove, CA

By Matt Diehl • October 02, 2017

Featuring some of the largest produce in the world, the Elk Grove Giant Pumpkin Festival is returning to Elk Grove, CA for the 23rd straight year. What began as a small harvest celebration has grown into a massive event that now attracts approximately 45,000 guests each year.1 The festival is the city’s largest family-friendly event and features a variety of entertainment and competitions that are fun for all ages.

The main attraction is the pumpkin weigh off. Growers from across the state and beyond bring their enormous orange gourds to compete, with some weighing in at nearly one ton. Other giant produce competitions include sunflowers and zucchinis. In addition to the weigh offs, festival goers can enjoy live entertainment, a kids’ zone, a lumberjack contest and the World Pumpkin Pie Eating Championship. One of the most popular and unique events of the day is a race between giant pumpkin boats across Elk Grove Park Lake.

As a first-time sponsor of the Giant Pumpkin Festival, OneMain is excited to support the festivities. Sara Taylor, a OneMain employee of over 11 years and branch manager of the Elk Grove branch, will be leading the efforts:

"My responsibilities will be to manage and organize the setup, which includes scheduling employee volunteers from my branch and the Lodi, CA branch. I’ll also be onsite to engage potential customers and merchants at our company booth. The festival kicks off the fall/harvest season here in Elk Grove, and a portion of the proceeds support local youth events throughout the area. We can’t wait to be a part of it."

When asked what she’s looking forward to the most, Taylor spoke about touching base with the community:

"I’m looking forward to working outside the office with the local community. Also, my staff and I enjoy working with other branches to spread our brand and have fun. My branch has sponsored the Elk Grove Multicultural Festival in the past and have participated in the local March of Dimes Walk several times. This event is just another chance for us to be part of the community."
