OneMain Celebrates The Dalles’ Upcoming Neon Sign Restoration Project

By Staff • August 29, 2018

OneMain Financial hosted its fourth Made on Main Street event on Saturday, August 18, with an exciting street festival that celebrated the upcoming restoration project in The Dalles, OR.

The Dalles Main Street program was one of seven organizations across the country to receive a $25,000 community action grant to help revitalize local communities. The organization is partnering with David Benko, owner of the National Neon Sign Museum, to restore classic neon signs and place them on various buildings as part of the town’s strategy to rebrand its image and attract local tourists. Benko recently opened the museum in the heart of downtown and hopes his extensive collection of signs can help provide a colorful glimpse into the town’s history.

To celebrate this innovative project and bring the community together, OneMain sponsored a free, family-friendly event with complimentary food, games, crafts and artisan vendors. Guests were also delighted to receive free access to the National Neon Sign Museum, where they browsed one of the largest collections of neon storefront signs in the world!

Members of the community enjoy the free, family-friendly event.

Jeremiah Paulson, coordinator for The Dalles Main Street Community Development, believes these signs will provide more character and bring the town closer to truly finding its identity: “We’re so thankful to OneMain Financial, National Main Street Center, the City of The Dalles and the National Neon Sign Museum for helping bring this project and vision to life.”
